April Project Update

April, 2018 by Granite School District Communications Office

Architectural Services Approved for Roosevelt & South Kearns

The Granite School District Board of Education approved a contract with VCBO Architects for architectural services for the Roosevelt Elementary and South Kearns Elementary rebuild projects.

NOTE: The Roosevelt Elementary rebuild was planned and funded prior to the passing of the bond. As such, there was no ‘line jumping’ with this project. The new building will be located at new site near 3900 South and 900 West.

Additional Projects

Bond funds were not used for these projects, but the passing of the bond speeds up the pace of these upgrades district wide.

The Board of Education has approved a general contractor (J.L. Hardy Construction) for remodels at Evergreen Jr. High and Valley Jr. High. Construction will begin at the end of the school year.

A general contractor (Hogan Construction) was approved for a remodel at the Granite Technical Institute. Utah State University recently vacated the fifth floor of the building, and the GTI will be expanding classrooms to that floor.

A contractor (Jardine Malaska Construction) was approved for security upgrades at Arcadia, Farnsworth, Hillsdale, Lincoln, Mill Creek, and Morningside. Construction will commence at the end of the school year.

January Update – Design Phase and Additional Projects

January, 2018 by Granite School District Communications Office

Design Phase Update
Schools and district staff are working closely with architects to establish guidelines and imperatives for rebuilds and remodels.

Especially for Cyprus High and Skyline High, these imperatives are modeled on building flexibility. This means the structures will better support and accommodate functional change during the life of the building.

It also means flexibility in the delivery of education by being able to easily change the size and shape of various learning areas to meet the needs of students.

As a reminder, the design phase for an elementary school is approximately 10-12 months. For high schools, architectural design takes 18-24 months.

Approved architectural contracts:
Cyprus High – EVELATE, $3,715,030.90
Skyline High – ELEVATE, $3,821,800.00

Additional Projects
Although bond funds were not used for the following projects, the passing of the bond freed up capital funds to speed up the rate of smaller projects.

-Jardine Malaska Construction Services was awarded the bid ($392,975.00) for security upgrades at Bacchus Elementary, Copper Hills Elementary, Fox Hills Elementary, Hunter Elementary, Oquirrh Hills Elementary, and Calvin Smith Elementary.

Plans are being finalized for the next group of security upgrades, and are scheduled to go to bid in January. This group includes: Mill Creek Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Farnsworth Elementary, Arcadia Elementary, Hillside Elementary, and Lincoln Elementary.

-Fire alarm upgrades at Hunter Elementary and Calvin Smith Elementary (Modern Construction, $30,900.00)

-In-wall cafeteria table replacements: Academy Park Elementary, Cottonwood Elementary, Lake Ridge Elementary, Mill Creek Elementary, Sandburg Elementary, Taylorsville Elementary, Vista Elementary, and West Kearns Elementary (Jardine Malaska Construction Services, $92,826.00)
