The Hunter High School wing addition is designed to alleviate crowding and decrease the number of relocatable classrooms necessary to house all courses. The 41,688 sq. ft facility is anticipated to be completed summer 2020.
The addition is located on the northwest side of the existing building. This two-story structure will house 12 general purpose learning studios of varying size with operable glass walls that allow for classroom activities to extend into hall areas.
The new addition will also include two science labs with accompanying support spaces, a new ‘maker’ space with direct access to an exterior courtyard, conference and breakout spaces throughout the facility, and a commons space with a ‘learning stair’ situated in a 2-story lobby space to create a welcoming environment from the west parking lot.
The flexible steel construction will allow for future building adaptations as 21st century education advances. Multiple connection points to the existing building will help decrease circulation congestion, and the structure is designed with back up systems to keep it functional in the event of an emergency.
