WATCH: Valley Junior High Cuts the Ribbon to Newly Remodeled Building

Students and staff at Valley Junior High were pleased to welcome families, residents, dignitaries, and elected officials to tour the newly remodeled building.

Remodel projects at Evergreen Jr. High, Valley Jr. High, and Granite Technical Institute are in the final stages of completion as we head into the new school year.

Other Project Updates:

A contract was awarded to Hughes General Contractors to be general contractor and construction manager for the Skyline High rebuild.

Elementary security upgrades continue throughout Granite School District. Upgrades at Morningside, Mill Creek, Lincoln, Farnsworth, Hillsdale, Arcadia, and Oquirrh Hills were recently completed, and construction at Fremont and Vista will begin soon.

Security upgrades will be included in 2018/2019 rebuild or remodel projects for the following schools: Howard Driggs, Rosecrest, South Kearns, and West Kearns.

The Granite Technical Institute is expanding. As part of a major remodel, classrooms and lab spaces are being added to the fifth floor of the building, which was previously occupied by Utah State University.

Security upgrades are being installed at a number of elementary schools in the district. These upgrades involve remodeling main entry areas into secure entry systems with additional doors that can only be unlocked by office staff.

May Project Update – Hunter Wing Addition

Hunter High Wing Addition

Construction is expected to begin this year on Hunter High School’s wing addition. This new two-story wing will be located on the northwest side of the building. The project is still in the design phase, but here are some anticipated features:

  • 12-14 Classrooms
  • 2 Science Labs
  • 4 Conference Spaces
  • 1 Make Space
  • 1 Teacher Collaboration Space

Additional Projects

Bond funds were not used for these projects, but the passing of the bond speeds up the pace of these upgrades district wide.

A contractor (GSBS Architects) was approved for architectural services for security upgrades at Fremont Elementary and Vista Elementary.

April Project Update

Architectural Services Approved for Roosevelt & South Kearns

 The Granite School District Board of Education approved a contract with VCBO Architects for architectural services for the Roosevelt Elementary and South Kearns Elementary rebuild projects.

NOTE: The Roosevelt Elementary rebuild was planned and funded prior to the passing of the bond. As such, there was no ‘line jumping’ with this project. The new building will be located at new site near 3900 South and 900 West.

The Board of Education has approved a general contractor (J.L. Hardy Construction) for remodels at Evergreen Jr. High and Valley Jr. High. Construction will begin at the end of the school year.

A general contractor (Hogan Construction) was approved for a remodel at the Granite Technical Institute. Utah State University recently vacated the fifth floor of the building, and the GTI will be expanding classrooms to that floor.

A contractor (Jardine Malaska Construction) was approved for security upgrades at Arcadia, Farnsworth, Hillsdale, Lincoln, Mill Creek, and Morningside. Construction will commence at the end of the school year.
